Senior Medical Officer – Primary Health Care
Full Time

TAIHS is seeking an experienced and qualified Senior Medical Officer to join our Primary Health Care Services. The Senior Medical Officer is part of the Executive team, with overall clinical responsibility for the delivery of Health Care Services across all TAIHS sites.
The purpose of the position is to provide leadership and clinical governance for service delivery across TAIHS’ Main Clinic, Maternal and Child Health, Outreach, Satellite and School-Based Clinics. This includes the planning and establishment of new sites, in line with TAIHS’ Strategic and Operational Plans.

Responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support clinical governance across TAIHS Primary Health Care Services, including routine monitoring, clinical supervision, feedback, quality improvement and innovation in the delivery of comprehensive Primary Health Care Services.
  • Working alongside the Clinic Coordinator and Lead Clinician, to support both formal and informal educational needs of health workforce.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, professional development and supervision of the TAIHS medical workforce.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • MBBS, registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Vocational Registration, with at least five (5) years clinical experience as a VR GP.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience with Indigenous Health.
  • Eligible to obtain a provider number at required clinic location.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary health team.

Practical Requirements

  • Work out of normal hours of duty and travel across the region maybe required
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
