About the position

As a Registered Nurse, you are responsible for the total care of the patient including triage, priority categorisation, early detection of health issues, clinical interventions, liaison with Doctors and other members of the multi disciplinary health care team, coordination of patient treatments and preventive care services.  The RN is responsible for the delivery, management and coordination of quality patient care and service delivery.

Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Ensure patient clinical interventions are carried out in an effective manner
  • Coordinate patient triage and assessment, care planning and all other duties required in a clinical setting
  • Conduct opportunistic screening and follow-up of patients
  • Ensure patient allergy list is kept up to date
  • Assist with Home Visits at the General Practitioner’s discretion
  • Maintain consulting treatment room/s, ensuring materials are fully stocked and tidied after each consult (this includes changing bed linen/paper after each patient)
  • Comply with TAIHS Vaccine Management Policy and Procedures Manual
  • Order clinic materials and supplies as per the Imprest list and in consultation with Practice Coordinator
  • Conduct full handover of patients to other health practitioners
  • Ensure infection control standards are in place in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Accurately document in client files any treatment and medication information
  • Ensure maintenance and confidentiality of patient health records
  • Maintain recall and follow up of patients as per General Practitioner/s requests
  • Store, prepare and administer medication in accordance with the Health Drugs and Poisons Regulation
  • Instruct client/care givers on how to obtain new medication supplies when required
  • Conduct Dangerous Drug check and count weekly
  • Comply with all legal, ethical and regulatory requirements

To be suitable for this position, your qualifications, experience & licenses for the role will consist of:

  • Current Registered Nurse registration with AHPRA 
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge and relevant experience working as a Registered Nurse
  • Knowledge and experience with treatment and management of health issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, relatives and a broad range of health professionals
  • Ability to administer and document patient medications and prescribed treatment accurately
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision and to adapt flexibly to unexpected changes
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and show support and respect for colleagues
  • Ability to show initiative, discretion and good judgement in carrying out clinical duties
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
  • Satisfactory Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Record
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: It is a condition of employment for this role to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19
