About the position

Responsible for supporting opportunistic and targeted patient screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and for contributing to health promotion activities that encourage the adoption of safe sex practices.  This position collates biannual STI data for reporting purposes and works with Doctors to ensure timely patient follow up and tracing in relation to patients requiring immediate and ongoing medical interventions associated with sexual health care.  

Duties include:

  • Monitor sexual health testing and treatment rates across the various clinic locations
  • Assists with the planning, development and distribution of health promotion education and resources for patients with a view to encouraging the adoption of safe sex practices
  • Works with health services and pathology labs to collect data to enable the identification of STI / BBV / HIV testing rates, cases diagnosed, and cases treated
  • Activates recall and reminder systems relevant to high-risk patients for screening, follow-up and medical intervention.
  • Participate in reporting processes and dissemination of information to TAIHS staff, external funding bodies and other relevant stakeholders where appropriate
  • Liaise with client GPs regarding positive results and supporting client follow up
  • Conduct patient screening and clinical assessments during GP outreach clinics and sexual health screening clinics
  • Liaise with external service providers for the purposes of contact tracing, recall follow up, and training (QAIHC, Townsville Sexual Health Service, Townsville Population Health Unit)
  • Assist in sexual health inventory ordering and stock-take across clinic locations

To be suitable for this position, your qualifications, experience & licenses for the role will consist of:

  • Cert IV in Primary Health Care or equivalent
  • AHPRA Specialist Registration (desirable)
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and evaluating sexual and reproductive health services in the primary health care setting
  • Experience in conducting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health assessments and other clinical assessments required in primary care setting
  • Knowledge of the issues affecting the health and well-being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living in the Townsville region
  • Experience in coordinating, implementing, and evaluating community-based health promotion programs and health promotion resources for use in cross cultural settings
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with GPs and other health professionals
  • Ability to conduct education and training in sexual and reproductive health
  • Ability to use MS Office suite, Medical Director and Pracsoft.
  • Ability to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records 
  • Current Blue Card (Queensland's Working with Children Check) (or AHPRA registration if required)
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld) 
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: It is a condition of employment for this position to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19
